Headset design for the acquisition of the EEG sign (electroencephalography) for the objective and real-time measurement of different factors during work activities. We completed the project by studying usability in real and operational contexts, taking into account the numerous technical and ergonomic constraints, first of all the exact position of the sensors and the adaptability of the headset to the various anthropometric measurements of the users.

Thanks to the integration of an innovative wireless and ultralight system for EEG signal recording and a new gel-free sensor technology, this headset has created a device able to read electrical activity in specific areas of the brain and to measure in real time various neurological metrics, mental load and engagement, of the user.

 

ERGONOMICS & DESIGN

The headset is equipped with sensors that, by reading the electrical activity in specific areas of the brain, are able to measure the level of mental workload, stress and engagement of the wearer. To ensure the correct positioning and operation of the sensors, we have provided an specific adjustment system that allows the headset to be quickly adapted to the various anthropometric measurements of the users, guaranteeing its adherence.

PROTOTYPING

We have made several prototypes to evaluate and identify the correct position of the sensors and to optimize the integration of electronics with the plastic structure. To ensure a wide adjustment, it has been used a velcro with a high resistance, sewn on technical fabric.

FAIR

The final prototype was presented at the World ATM Congress. During the fair, participants could wear the headset and test the headset with a virtual simulation of air traffic control. Users could see on a monitor both the simulation and the real-time trend of the various measured factors. The project was developed in collaboration with Leonardo Company, Deep Blue and BrainSings.
